Parkinson Technologies is Expanding Again
August 2, 2001
Woonsocket, Rhode Island-USA
Parkinson Technologies of Woonsocket, Rhode Island announces another expansion.
Since moving to a 50,000 square foot facility in 1995, Parkinson Technologies had expanded the plant in 1999 and in 2000 to 80,000 square feet. The latest expansion will add approximately 20,000 square feet, giving the company 100,000 square feet. This will provide space for its Marshall and Williams Plastics Laboratory, which is currently located at another facility in Providence, Rhode Island. In addition there will be new office space, cafeteria, locker rooms and a truck shed. The expansion is expected to be completed by early October of this year.
In preparation for this expansion, the company went through a "Red Tag" process of Lean. The "Red Tag" was the sorting phase, where employees sorted items in their workplace to leave only the items they needed, in the quantity that are needed. The object of this process was to reduce clutter in the workplace, which will translate to better efficiency. Parkinson incorporated the Lean philosophy in the fall of 2000 to help machine orders flow through the company quicker and more efficiently. Lean has positively affected all areas of Parkinson Technologies.
Parkinson Technologies is a manufacturer of capital equipment, which includes winders and other products for the handling of large webs for the plastic, nonwoven, and paper industries. Parkinson acquired the Marshall and Williams Plastics Division in the spring of 2000; they engineer and manufacture equipment for the orientation of plastic film. Parkinson is also affiliated with Key Filters, a manufacturer of filtration equipment for the plastics industry.
