Parkinson Supplying Mill Roll Winder for BBA Spunlace Project
July 17, 2002
Woonsocket, Rhode Island-USA
Parkinson Technologies, a leader in the design and manufacturing of winders and web-handling equipment has been awarded the contract for winding equipment on the recently announced BBA Nonwovens $36 million spunlace expansion in Bethune, SC.
The Parkinson equipment being supplied, which is part of the Mark IV product line, will be fully automated for minimal operator requirements, and will include automated shaft, roll, and core handling systems. “BBA performed an exhaustive search of equipment suppliers worldwide. In the end, the U.S. based Parkinson was their first choice for the latest state-of-the-art spunlace winding technology.” says Parkinson Sales Manger, Andrew Miller.
The new line will represent one of the largest spunlace lines in production after its commissioning next year. Parkinson’s offering will include the use of in-line slitting, across an extremely wide web width. The inherent roll supporting design of the Mark IV will enable BBA to produce finished, saleable rolls directly on the mill roll winder. No further processing by off-line equipment is needed to meet the industry standard core sizes across this wide web width.
Parkinson has been serving the nonwovens market for over 30 years with innovative equipment to meet the needs of future development. Parkinson acquired the Marshall and Williams Plastics Division in the spring of 2000, a turnkey supplier of complete biaxial orientation lines for plastic film and nonwoven substrates. Parkinson is also affiliated with Key Filters, a manufacturer of filtration equipment for the plastics industry.
