Parkinson Technologies To Introduce New Slitter/Rewinder at NPE 2009

Genesis 700 Slitter/Rewinder Line Ideal for Small to Mid-size Converting Operations

May 28, 2009

Woonsocket, RI

Parkinson Technologies will introduce an all-new slitter/rewinder at NPE 2009. This machine, called the Genesis 700, is especially designed for small to mid-sized converting operations and can handle a broad range of materials at high productivity levels.

"We believe this new slitter/rewinder is the most affordable, yet feature-rich machine of its type on the market," said Pete Termyn, President & CEO of Parkinson Technologies. "It is designed for a specific market range: small to mid-size manufacturers who are looking to achieve cost savings and flexibility by bringing converting capabilities in-house or rolled goods suppliers who need incremental converting capability in a highly efficient footprint."

The Genesis 700 center-driven duplex slitter/rewinder is the newest addition to the existing line of converting systems from Parkinson. It has features and capabilities not normally seen in slitter/rewinders in this market segment, including:

  • Full-featured Human Machine Interface (HMI) with full PLC controls
  • Web tension optimization for handling a wide variety of materials
  • Razor and rotary-shear slitting
  • Pre-engineered to accept numerous available options

In addition, it features a compact footprint that saves valuable floor space; employs an integral unwind system with numerous features; and has a short web path for improved rewind roll quality.

The HMI on the Genesis 700 has a comprehensive set of user screens designed for simple operation and maintenance. The intuitive design of these screens means that no extensive operator training is necessary. The HMI also features an Ethernet connection for remote diagnostic capabilities.

"This is a very versatile machine that we feel has best-in-class technology," said Joe Connelly, Product Manager at Parkinson who was instrumental in the development of the new Genesis 700. "The sophisticated yet easy-to-use aspect of the HMI is a major feature. It will fill a niche in the flexible packaging label stock and film markets for both producers and users of those materials."

Global Capabilities
With its long history of winding and web handling expertise, Parkinson has leveraged its broad process know-how into the development of the new Genesis 700 slitter/rewinder. The result is a highly productive machine that is backed worldwide by Parkinson's remote diagnostics and support network.

"Parkinson Technologies has been serving web processing industries for over 100 years," said Termyn. "One of the most important things about this new product is the company that stands behind it. We have the experience and the capability to provide our customers with an extensive range of equipment and technology and routinely deal with large-scale, multi-machine projects for complete processing lines as well as single machine applications to satisfy a specific need."

Product and technology updates will also be highlighted at Parkinson's booth at NPE. Items include the company's patented POSITRAN® surface winding technology, its SUPERFLEX™ stretching system for plastics orientation and its exclusive compression roll drawing (CRD) orientation technology that has been featured at recent extrusion and plastic processing conferences.

From upstream primary processing to downstream converting, Parkinson's comprehensive machinery line-up and turnkey capabilities offers customers integrated solutions for a broad range of product and performance requirements.
