Parkinson Technologies Introduces New Tenter Clip Design For Use In Transverse Direction Orientation (TDO) Film Stretching Applications
New Clips Provide Higher Strength, Better Control for High-Speed Film Stretching
March 9, 2009
Woonsocket, RI
A new tenter clip design from Parkinson Technologies allows for better web handling at high speeds. These clips are designed for use in Marshall & Williams brand TDO film stretching systems.
The Model 475DJ TDO Tenter Clip is designed for use on new TDO's or as replacements on existing TDO machines for orientation of polypropylene, polystyrene, PVC or specialty films. These clips, which ride on two horizontal chain tracks in the TDO, grip each side of the material and convey the material along a tenter frame through an oven. The film passes through three heated sections of the oven: the preheat, stretch, and anneal sections.
Improvements in the new Model 475DJ Tenter Clip include an advanced high strength 4 3/4" pitch chain, and a dual jaw with a low profile. This allows increased holding power of the film, which significantly improved the handling of these films at speeds up to 1,600 ft./min (500 mpm).
The two hardened steel jaws on each clip firmly close along a precision machined surface. The resulting accurate contact means close gripping tolerances for finished materials over a wide range of thicknesses. The low profile of the clips allows for closer positioning of the oven nozzles to the film, resulting in precise control and greater heating efficiency.
Another unique feature of the clip is its 'snap latch design', which allows the clip to remain open after releasing the material. This greatly increases the life of the clip assembly.
With its Marshall & Williams brand, Parkinson Technologies is a recognized global leader and innovator in plastics orientation and casting equipment. Marshall & Williams brand tenter frames were originally built for use in the textile industry, and M&W was the first to adapt this TDO technology to orient plastics film and sheet.
