Parkinson Technologies New Contractor Roll Winder Helps Raven Industries Achieve Performance Objectives
January 5, 2007
Woonsocket, RI-USA
Parkinson Technologies announces the successful commissioning of a new winder design for the contractor and consumer roll market. The design was developed to meet the need for short-cycle winding of wide webs, either in-line or off-line, in order to efficiently produce market-ready rolls suitable for end-market sale without further converting. Parkinson worked closely with Raven Industries' Engineered Films Division to help them achieve challenging productivity and cost objectives in winding market-ready rolls of Raven's house wrap material. The winder produces 12-foot wide rolls of material with lengths between 100 and 200 lineal feet of reinforced house wrap on 2-inch cores at the rate of two rolls per minute. Auto-loading of cores is accomplished at a maximum rate of 120 per hour. The winder includes an innovative traversing mechanism that incorporates a hot melt glue dispenser and knife to automatically adhere the web to the core, cut the web at the specified lineal distance and then adhere the cut end to the finished roll. Raven previously utilized a labor intensive process that was significantly challenged to achieve productivity and safety improvements.
